An original 1939 dated British National Fire Service MKII Steel Helmet in original condition.

This pattern of helmet was issued to members of the NFS throughout the Second World War. It is the same pattern as was issued to the British Army and is a standard MKII shell made by 'RO & Co' in 1939. The helmet is finished in the chocolate brown colour often found on helmets made during 1939. The exterior retains a reasonable amount of its paint finish and the interior is very good. The front of the helmet retains the original NFS decal complete with King's crown. To the underside of the rim the original markings are still present and legible. These include the maker's initial and the 1939 date. The original owner has also added their service number which is illustrated in picture 8.

Inside the helmet the original liner is still present and is also dated 1939 and marked as a size 7. It is the early pattern which features an oval shaped pad to the top and it was made by 'Helmets Ltd' The liner is in very good condition and is fitted to the helmet with the correct large brass bolt which was used on early production helmets. The chin strap is also present and in good condition with limited signs of wear and age.

A very nice original wartime Home Front helmet which would make a good addition to a collection. All the parts are clearly original making this a nice, unmolested example.
