An original British made work dress made as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme from a French blue coloured cotton.

The CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The label is now deemed to be highly desirable by many collectors due to its wartime history.

This dress is typical of workwear dresses worn in the inter-war period and during the Second World War. It is made from a cotton twill material which is a French blue colour. It features navy blue coloured buttons and a matching waist belt which fastens with a single button. Two patch pockets are located to the skirt and there is a hanging loop inside the neck. The overall design is very simple and utilitarian.

Inside the dress the original label is still present and bears the CC41 logo the size of 'SW' (small, women) and the words 'Overalls Rigmel Shrunk'.

When laid flat the dress measures -

Chest - 20 1/2"
Waist - 16 1/2"
Shoulders - 12 1/2"
Length - 40 1/2"

The dress is in good wearable condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows some no signs of wear and use but does have some fade marks, presumably from storage. It is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original piece of British workwear with the collectable CC41 label.
