Original WW2 RAF MK VIII Flying Goggles - Air Ministry Marked

Code: 55272

SOLD

An original pair of WW2 RAF MK VIII Goggles with the sought after Air Ministry markings to the leather bridge.

These goggles are arguably the most iconic of all RAF goggles and saw use with aircrews from 1942 well into the post-war years. They also saw action with USAAF crews, Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Command amongst others.

This particular pair are in nice condition and still retain the majority of their original blue paint to the brass frames. The leather eye pads are nice and the chamois backing is clean showing only limited signs of wear and use. The bridge piece is marked with the War Department broad arrow marking as well as the 22C/930 stores reference number. The goggles also feature the curved edges to the frames which is a feature associated with wartime manufactured goggles.

The original grey elastic strap is still present but shows signs of age. It has lost much of its elasticity and one end has been knotted onto the metal clip (left side as worn). The chromium plated adjuster is still present and is in good condition retaining both of its leather pull tabs.

Overall these are a very nice pair of original RAF goggles with the sought after Air Ministry markings which display very well.
