Original 1945 Dated Indian Made Jungle Green Battledress Trousers

A rare original pair of Indian made British Jungle Green Battledress Trousers clearly dated 1945. 

This pattern of trousers was introduced into service in 1943 and was issued to men of both the British Army and Royal Air Force who were serving in the Far East in the latter part of the Second World War. Made from a cotton drill which was vat dyed a grey-green colour, the trousers have a similar look to denim trousers of the same period. They feature two straps and buckles to fasten the waist - the same style as used on KD shorts and trousers during WW2. A double pleated first field dressing pocket is located on the right hip whilst the left leg has a map pocket which features a single pleat - a feature unique to this pattern. Both pockets fasten with stamped steel buttons which have a corrosion inhibitive zinc finish. More of these buttons are found at the fly and around the inside edge of the waist for braces. The rear of the trousers also features a pleated patch pocket which again fastens with a zinc plated button.

Inside the trousers the circular stamp usually found on Indian made items can be found on the reverse of one of the pocket bags and it bears the 1945 date. There is also the maker's stamp which reads 'W. E. 1945'. 

The trousers will fit around a 29" - 30" waist depending on desired fit. When laid flat they measure - 

Waist - 14 3/4"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Rear rise - 16 1/2"
Inside leg - 29 1/2"
Outside leg - 42"
Cuff - 9 1/2"

The trousers are in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They show only limited signs of wear or use and are still in very clean condition. There are some marks to the legs etc but these are only minor flaws which do not really detract from the piece. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have very small flaws commensurate with age.
