Original 1945 Dated British Army MKIII 'Turtle' Helmet

Code: 55805

SOLD

An original British Army MKIII Steel Helmet dating from 1945 which is in good condition.

This pattern of helmet was developed during the Second World War and was produced in time for the DDay landings where it was used by various units. It is an improved design of the MKII which is a deeper shape offering the wear more protection. This pattern stayed in service with the British Army until the 1970s which is testament to its design.

Due to the shape of the helmet shell, this pattern of helmet is often referred to as the 'Turtle' helmet. The shell features the high positioned chin strap legs which denote it as a MKIII which were only produced between 1943 and 1945 when the MKIV was introduced which guarantees this as a wartime example. The original factory paint is present to the interior whilst the exterior has a hand painted olive green coloured finish.

The original liner is present inside the helmet and is in good condition. It is clearly marked with the maker's initials of 'BMB' which denotes Briggs Motor Bodies as the manufacturer. The 1945 date is present as is the size of 7 1/2 which is a rare large size. The chin strap is the correct fully elastic pattern used on this pattern of helmet.

The helmet is in good condition and displays well. There are some signs of age etc but overall it is a nice example. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with wear.

A nice original war dated example of this hard to find pattern of helmet.
