An original British Windproof anorak smock which was made by 'Black's of Greenock' during the 1960s.

These smocks were made by 'Blacks' for the civilian market during the 1950s and 1960s. It formed the basis of the British Army Cadet Smock issued in the 1970s and 1980s and is now considered a sought-after design classic.

The smock is made from an orange coloured, tight weave cotton and features a large pocket to the centre of the chest which fastens with velcro and two lower patch pockets which fasten with buttons. The hood gusset features a short 'L' branded zipper which is typical of the period and denotes Lightning as the maker. The original orange coloured string and plastic triangular branded puller are also still present which is a nice detail. The original drawstrings are present to the waist and hood and inside the sleeve there is an elasticated storm cuff. The mouth of the hood features a faux fur section which is a nice detail.

Inside the smock the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Blacks Greenock' in the classic black text on a gold field graphics used by the company during this period. It also bears the words 'Stormpruf Made in Great Britain' and the size of large is indicated on a separate white coloured label below this.

The smock is a large size which will fit up to a 46" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 27"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 25"
Length - 33"
Shoulders - 24"

The overall condition of the smock is good with signs of wear and use. There is no serious damage or flaws but signs of wear and use as well as some staining as illustrated in the pictures. Overall it is very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A good example of a rare and desirable pattern of smock!
