An original British made unisex short duffle coat dating from the 1950s.

Based on the military 'Coats, Duffle', this jacket was designed for the civilian market but clearly takes its influence from the military coats produced during WW2. In the post-war period duffle coats became a very popular style in the UK with both men and women, who were often young people or students. Whilst the standard long duffle coats were popular, this short style was also a regular sight and worn by both sexes.

The coat is made from boiled wool which is often referred to as 'camel hair'. This fabric was traditionally used for duffle coats from the Second World War and well into the latter part of the 20th Century. The coat is a simple, utilitarian design which features two patch pockets to the front and a large rounded collar. The front of the coat fastens with wooden toggles and rope which can be fastened either the men's or women's side which would suggest this was produced as a unisex item. The interior of the coat is lined with a tartan plaid pattern material. The original label is present to this and bears the maker's name of 'Eamanco' below which are the words 'Quality Clothing'. The graphics on the label are typical of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The coat is cut wide in the body and is designed to be worn oversized to allow for plenty of freedom of movement. It will fit around a 40" chest well and possibly slightly larger. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 24 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/4"
Length - 30"

The coat is in good condition with some signs of wear and use as can be seen in the pictures. There are no serious flaws or damage but plenty of signs of wear and use. The nap of the wool is worn in various areas which is most notable to the sleeves and edges of the pockets etc. Please study these before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A great vintage coat in a highly sought-after and hard to find style which has some nice period details.
