Original 1940s CC41 Herringbone Tweed Rainbow fleck Overcoat - Size 38

A stunning original 1940s men's overcoat made as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme from a fantastic rainbow fleck herringbone striped wool. 

The CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The label is now deemed to be highly desirable by many collectors due to its wartime history. 

The coat is made from a striking herringbone striped wool that has a slubby weave which gives it a flecked appearance. These flecks are different colours including reds and blues. The silhouette is typical of the 1940s featuring a double breasted front with wide button stance, large pockets to the front and a waist belt which is made from matching material. The waist belt features a leather covered metal buckle which is typical of the era and is in excellent condition. These are often damaged or heavily worn but this example is excellent. All the buttons are a tortoiseshell colour which contrast nicely against the colour of the coat and give it a classic 1940s feel.

The interior of the coat features a partial lining of grey coloured rayon and twin interior pockets. The CC41 utility label is also present to the lining and there is a large paper label inside the interior pocket which is no longer legible.

The coat will fit a 38" - 40" chest due to being cut in a loose, over-size manner and when laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length - 48"

The coat is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. There is wear to the main pockets, most notably to the lining on the reverse of the flaps although this is not noticeable when it is worn. Overall it displays very well and is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing as it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have flaws commensurate with age.
