Original 1940s British Made Gery Wool Undershirt by 'Thoresen'

Original 1940s British Made Gery Wool Undershirt by 'Thoresen'

Code: 55638

SOLD

An original men's three button wool undershirt made by 'Thoresen' during the 1940s.

This shirt is typical of those made in the 1940s and were worn by men from a variety of walks of life, as well as in the military. Whilst the Army, RAF and Royal Navy had issue vests like this, private purchase examples were often worn. They are all very similar to look at and were quite possibly made in the same factory.

The construction of the undershirt is typical of the period although the colour is not. It is made from a grey coloured wool, rather than the usual cream colour, and is machine made. It features a round neck and a three button fastening which is a style often referred to as 'Henley' today. It also has long sleeves in contrast to the short sleeves more regularly encountered on undershirts from this period.

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Thoresen' along with the rods 'Golden Giant Cow' and 100% Pure Wool. There is also a small size label which bears the size of 36.  When laid flat the shirt measures -

Chest - 17 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 26 1/2"

The shirt is in excellent condition with no signs of previous wear or use. It displays well and is totally wearable but is a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

An original 1940s undershirt with a great label.
