An original British made shooting coat dating from the 1960s which is in nice condition.
This coat was made for the N.S.R.A during the 1960s and was specifically designed for shooting. It is made from a grey coloured gabardine material and features a 1960s 'Aero' branded zipper which fastens the front of the jacket. It features rough side out leather patches to the left sleeve with the elbow section being heavily padded to cushion the wearer's elbow when lying prone. There is another section to the right shoulder which is intended to cushion a rifle button. There are straps on the left sleeve which are made from the same material as the rest of the jacket. They can be adjusted with chromium plated slide buckles.
The rear of the jacket is particularly interesting as it features a half belt at the waist and an action back. Below the belt are two open topped pockets which is a great design feature. Patches have also been added to the rear and are typical of those found on shooting jackets from this era. The three patches represent different shooting clubs including the Liverpool University Rifle Club and the County of Lancaster SRA.
Inside the jacket there is a hanging loop at the neck. Half way down the back of the jacket is a section of elastic which allows the jacket to expand before being pulled back into shape again. The original label is also present to the interior and features the name of 'The N.S.R.A Shooting Coat' which is set against typical period graphics.
The jacket will suit up to a 40" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 18 3/4"
Length - 25 1/2"
The jacket is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. It displays well and is still totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
