Rare Original Early 1950s French Blouson Cyclist Jacket by 'Le Faisan'

Rare Original Early 1950s French Blouson Cyclist Jacket by 'Le Faisan'

Code: 55659

An original French cotton drill blouson cyclist jacket in new old stock condition.

This style of jacket became incredibly popular in the late 1930s and stayed in vogue throughout the whole of the 1940s. They are often referred to as 'cyclist' jackets or 'blouson' jackets and appear in many period photographs. This example most likely dates from the early 1950s but could be slightly earlier.

This example is typical of the period. It is made from a French blue coloured sanforized cotton and features a high quality metal zipper to close the front which features a locking puller and heavy duty sto box which is illustrated in the pictures. Patch pockets which fasten with  black coloured buttons are located to the chest e and there is a small tab which fastens across the bottom of the zip at the waistband which is a common feature on French cyclist jackets from this period. Two short sections of elastic are fitted to the waistband which help to keep the jacket fitting snug around the waist.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and bears typical period graphics. The maker's name of 'Le Faisan' is present which translates as 'The Pheasant'. There is also a graphic of a Pheasant next to the maker's name.

The jacket is a small size which will suit someone of around a 34-36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 19 1/2"
Relaxed waist - 16" (has some stretch)
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 24"
Length - 20 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"

The jacket is in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has clearly never been and would really be very hard to better. It is still a deep blue colour and the material still has a nice sheen to it which is only seen on new, unworn items. There is however some minor staining to the front which is evident in the pictures. This may come out with cleaning and has been reflected in the asking price. Please take time to study the pictures as it is a vintage item though which is well over 70 years old so it may have small issues commensurate with age.

A fantastic example of this rare and sought after style of jacket, complete with all of its original label and a great zip!
