A rare pair of mens cotton breeches dating from around the end of the 19th Century.

These breeches were made to be worn with a formal traditional dress which harks back to the regency period. They were made as livery to be worn with a tailcoat so they would have belonged to a member of staff who worked as a servant or similar. They are cut in a typical Victorian or early 20th Century manner with a flat front and button fly closure. They are made from a fine, lightweight cotton and close around the leg with mother of pearl type buttons. The rear of the breeches features a cinch-back belt and buckle which is a typical early shape. It features a brass double pronged buckle which is marked 'Solide' and 'Paris' which are both typical markings from the late Victorian and Edwardian period.

The breeches will suit a 26" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 13 1/4"
Rise - 12 1/4"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Inside leg - 21"
Outside leg - 32"
Calf - 5 1/2"
Cuff - 6"

The garment is in worn condition with some signs of wear and use etc. There are a couple of small holes to the seat which are illustrated in the final pictures and there is general wear etc. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A rare pair of early breeches with some great period details.
