£265.00 Approx $327.97, €307.78

A rare original pair of British made men's breeches dating from the late Victorian period.

These breeches are typical of those made in the late 19th Century. They feature a high rise waist, large 'elephant' ear shape and buttons to the calf. Made from a fantastic salt and pepper type grey wool fabric which features a dark coloured overcheck, the breeches feature large frogmouth pockets to the front and a cinch back and buckle to the rear. The buckle is marked with the maker's name of 'Sandon & Co'. The buttons are stamped metal examples which are typical of the period and also feature the brand name to the front. The lining materials such as the glazed linen sections are again typical of clothing from this period.

The original label is present to the interior and has been stitched in by hand. It bears the maker's name of 'Sandon & Co' to the top along with the address of 8 Saville Row, London W'. The postcode being simply a 'W' rather than 'W1' denotes these as being made before 1917. The original owner's name has been added in ink and may offer scope for further research.

The breeches will suit around a 30" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 15 1/4"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Rear rise - 19 1/2"
Inside leg - 28"
Outside leg - 39 1/2"
Cuff - 5"
Calf - 5 3/4"

The breeches are in excellent condition for their age and display well. They are totally wearable with no serious damage or flaws and only very limited  signs of wear and age. There are a couple of very small holes to the front and another larger one to the rear of the extra material fitted to the bottom of the right leg (picture 13). Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this item is approximately 100 years old and has some small flaws commensurate with age.

A very rare pair of early breeches in a fantastic fabric and in superb condition.
