Original 1940s CC41 Windowpane Check Overcoat by 'CWS' - Size 40

Original 1940s CC41 Windowpane Check Overcoat by 'CWS' - Size 40

Code: 55870

A very nice original 1940s men's overcoat made by CWS as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme.

The CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The label is now deemed to be highly desirable by many collectors due to its wartime history.

The coat is made from a brown coloured wool which features a large orange overcheck which is typical of the period. The silhouette is typical of the 1940s featuring a double breasted front with wide button stance, large patch pockets to the front and a turn back cuff.

The interior of the coat features a partial lining of brown coloured rayon and a single interior pocket. The original label is still present and reads 'C.W.S. Society Wear' which denotes the Cooperative Wholesale Society as the maker, better known today as the Co-op. The CC41 utility label is also present as illustrated in picture 4 .

The coat is designed to fit a 40" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 26"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length - 45"

The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There is a repair to the left sleeve which is illustrated in the picture 4 but is hard to notice due to the busy pattern of the coat. It is a vintage, pre-owned item which has been worn so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A fantastic original British made men's overcoat in a striking striped fabric!
