An original pair of women's canvas topped riding boots which date from the middle of the 20th Century.

This style of boots was popular with boot men and women during the first half of the 20th Century. They were worn as field boots or for riding - usually in conjunction with breeches or jodhpurs. Whilst leather topped boots were more prolific, these canvas topped style boots were also produced and arguably offered more waterproof and weatherproof qualities.

The shoe of the boot is made in a typical jodphur style in russet brown coloured leather. There is an ankle strap which fastens with a single prong metal buckle and the soles are leather with a rubber sole protector fitted over this. The heels are the original and the words 'Made in England' are stamped to the instep. The uppers are made from a rubberised canvas twill which was popular during this period due to its waterproof qualities.

Inside the boots are the original stamps which include the size of 5 1/2E which would suggest that they were made for the American market and are therefore a UK size 4 1/2. The boots measure 10 1/4" along and 3 1/2" at the widest point outside the boot.

The boots are in good condition with some signs of wear and age. Overall they display well with no serious flaws but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage pre-worn pair of boots which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice pair of mid Century boots!
