A very rare original men's two piece linen suit made during the Edwardian period which is made from a silk and linen mix.

Lightweight suits made from materials such as linen became popular during the late Victorian period with men who were spending time in hot climates overseas and were a common choice for the English gentleman abroad. Often paired with a panama hat or similar, this style of suit is quintessentially English with original vintage examples being very rare to find today. This example dates from the around the 1910s to early 1920s and is typical of the period in cut and construction. It is made from an amazing silk linen blend which gives it a notable yellow hue when compared to normal linen suits.

The jacket features a single breasted, two button front which fastens with butterscotch coloured buttons. The pronounced notch lapel, short 'bum freezer' length and lack of any rear vents are also common traits of jackets from this period. The narrow shoulder displacement is another classic feature of Edwardian and 1920s mens suit jackets. The jacket features patch pockets to the front and a single button to each cuff. The inside of the jacket is unlined and there is a single interior pocket.

The trousers are again a classic example of Edwardian period British tailoring. They feature a high rise waist and a flat front which is typical of Edwardian and 1920s mens trousers. Straight slash pockets are located to each hip and belt loops are positioned around the waist. The rear of the trousers features a 'fishtail' rise to the rear which was common on Victorian clothing and  began to fall out of fashion during the inter-war period. Of particular note is the cuff at the bottom of the leg which has been pressed to have two creases - An interesting detail. The fly fastens with white coloured buttons and more are fitted around the waist to which braces can be attached.

The suit will fit someone of around a 34" - 36" chest and 34 1/2" waist depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Jacket
Chest - 19 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length - 30 1/2"

Trousers
Waist - 17 1/2"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Rear rise - 18 1/2"
Inside leg - 27 1/2"
Outside leg - 41"
Cuff - 8 1/2"

The suit is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are no signs of serious damage or undue wear that I can find and overall it presents extremely well with some signs of use etc and wear to the armpits. There are some light marks etc as well as some staining which is illustrated in the pictures and are to be expected for a suit of this vintage. It may be possible to clean the staining out but I have not attempted to do so. This is a vintage, pre-worn suit which is over 70 years old and may therefore have small issues commensurate with age. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A fantastic and very rare period suit in nice condition. This would make a brilliant addition to any wardrobe!
